Thought it was about time for an update.

Gaming: I continue to host Game Night Social at the Garage Food Hall in Indianapolis every Tuesday night. On March 26, we’ll be holding the first Board Game Swap Meet there. Details here. I’ll also be running games and leading my annual pub trivia competition at Who’s Yer Con, one of my favorite weekends of the year. Check out details on the con here. I have been slow to get game reviews posted here on the site but more will be coming. I am also doing more gaming events for both charities and private parties. Reach out for more info. Oh, and I’ve been asked to, once again, be the trivia guy for Scott Semester’s Big Broadway Sing-along at the Cabaret in June (which is already sold out!)

Theater Journalism: I’m honored to be back on the board of the American Theatre Critics Association and, once again, will be helping coordinate ATCA’s national conference in the fall. I’m still reviewing here as well as at Theatrecriticism.com. Recent thought’s on “Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812.” in Denver can be found here. And I’ll be heading to Minneapolis in April to cover the Guthrie Theatre’s Richard II/Henry IV/Henry V marathon and am planning on another trek to the Stratford Festival. I’ve also done some writing for the new Mirror Indy site, including a roundup of ten actors to watch, and have a piece on a new play coming to the Phoenix Theatre in Indianapolis Monthly’s March issue. More on the way in the April issue of IM, including a piece on my favorite recent show in NYC that is making its way to Broadway.

Theater Producing: I’m happy to announce that Indy Actors’ Playground is back. For those unfamiliar, it’s an actor-focused play reading series at which, each month, a different professional actor picks and casts a play that they’ve long wanted to do but haven’t had the chance. We never announce what the play will be but usually share a hint of genre or style. It’s going to be the second Monday of every month beginning in May, but we are kicking things off on April 1 with a special one to celebrate IAP’s 100th reading. We’ve gathered some of Indy’s leading actors who also happen to now be artistic directors of local companies. They’ll be reading a script that we’ve picked — and have no idea what they will be reading until they open the envelopes on stage. Info here. It’s all free but we hope you’ll consider shopping or donating at our venue, Indy Reads bookstore in Foundain Square.

Theater Writing: The work continues. I’m happy to send scripts to interested potential producers (or anyone who knows a potentially interested producer).

Society of Professional Journalists. My full-time work with the Society of Professional Journalists continues. Part of my job is editing Quill, SPJ’s magazine. You can read stories, full issues, and online-only content here. I also manage SPJ’s extensive awards programs and am always looking for qualified journalists as judges for both professional and college competitions. Reach out if you are interested.

I’m sure there’s something I’m forgettting…but I have to get back to work now.

Onward,

Lou
