Some quick updates — written while I wait to present a playwriting workshop at the inaugural Proof literary festival at the Harrison Center for the Arts.

— On October 26, Two First Names Productions will be presenting two performances of our long-form interactive improv hit, “Going…Going…Gone: The Live AUCTION Comedy” at Fonseca Theatre. We’ll be announcing the cast soon and are looking forward to our first Halloween-themed show in years. Tickets available here. What exactly is “Going…Going…Gone,” you ask. Here’s your answer.

— This year’s Spirit & Place Festival will include three performances of my play “Balsa Wood.” The fest’s theme of Gratitude this year beautifully fits the play. We’re in rehearsal now with a very strong cast. Performances Nov. 2-3. Tickets and info here.

— Game Night Social continues every Tuesday night from 6-9 at the Garage Food Hall. New tabletop games added every week. In addition, the Oct. 14 gathering will include our quarterly Great Board Game Swap Meet. Bring the games you no longer player or just didn’t speak to you and trade them for ones that might be more to your liking. Last time, about a dozen folks participated. Info here. I’ll also be posted more board game reviews here.

— Travel writing has continued for Indianapolis Monthly and film reviews for Midwest Film Journal. Heck, you can even check out recent issues of Quill, the magazine I edit for the Society of Professional Journalists.

— I had the honor of joining Jeopardy champ (and co-writer with me of a bunch of trivia books) for an original evening of pub trivia at the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library as part of Banned Books Week. Next up: I’ve been asked to return to host an evening of movie trivia for the Heartland Film Festival Volunteer squad. (Want a one-of-a-kind trivia event? Touch base and let’s talk.)

— SiteLine’s Indy’s production of Warren Leight’s “Side Man” sold out its two shows at the Chatterbox jazz club. I’ve long wanted to stage this wonderful play in an actual, storied jazz venue and with live musicians and, well, a dream came true. I had the honor of directing a first-rate cast and working with pianist Christopher Pitts as music director. His trio, on stage the entire time, was both subtle and souring. If you are part of an organization with a specific interest area, SiteLines Indy can partner with you to bring a play to your turf, whether as a reading or full production. Touch base if interested. In the meantime, here are some photos from “Side Man,” courtesy of Indy Ghost Light:
